El día 24 de mayo mientras guiaba a una pareja de clientes americanos, Carole y David Jones, me topé con un macho adulto de cernícalo patirrojo en los llanos de Valdetorres del Jarama. Era la primera vez que veía la especie en Madrid.
El cernícalo patirrojo es una pequeña rapaz que cría en la Europa oriental y Asia, invernando en algunos países del sur de África. Se trata de una especie que puede observarse con cierta frecuencia en la costa levantina e islas Baleares siendo muy esporádicos los registros en el interior y oeste peninsular. El mes de mayo es que más citas de cernícalo patirrojo arroja en nuestro país.
Ese día también pudimos observar avutarda, ganga ortega, águila imperial ibérica, buitre negro, milano real, milano negro, pájaro moscón, currucas mirlona, carrasqueña, cabecinegra y rabilarga, verderón serrano y papamoscas cerrojillo (ssp. iberiae)... y todo ello sin necesidad de salir de la región de Madrid. Cernícalo patirrojo (Madrid 24/5/2011) / Red-footed Falcon
On 24th May while I was leading an American couple, Carole and David Jones, we found an adult male Red-footed Falcon in the plains of Valdetorres del Jarama. This was the first time I saw the species in Madrid.
The Red-footed Falcon is a small raptor which breeds in Eastern Europe and Asian, overwintering the some South African countries. This bird can be regularly seen along the East coas of Spain and through the Balearic island during the routes migration being a very scarce species well inland Spain. May is by far the month with the highest number of records in Spain.
We also saw that day Great Bustard, Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Black Vulture, Red and Black Kites, Penduline Tit, Western Orphean, Subalpine, Melodious, Dartford and Sardinian Warblers, Citril Finch and Iberian Pied Flycatcher... and all of this within the borders of Madrid region!
