Migración por el Estrecho, 17 a 23 Septiembre: Día 5Straits of Gibraltar, 17 - 23 September: Day 5

Sin duda alguna hoy ha sido uno de esos días que crean afición. Hemos pasado toda la mañana en La Janda y la tarde en la Sierra de la Plata con una breve parada para comer en Bolonia. En los arrozales gran número de cigüeñas blanca, entre 75 y 100 cigüeñas negras, unos 600 moritos, las tres especies de aguiluchos, cenizo, lagunero y pálido, dos mochuelos, culebreras, calzadas, al menos cinco abejeros, dos elanios... pero lo mejor ha sido justo al final, cuando hemos descubierto un juvenil de águila imperial ibérica posada en los rastrojos. Pudimos observarla a placer durante una media hora para luego desaparecer cicleando junto a un bando mixto de rapaces. Uno de los clientes consiguió ver fugazmente una nutria y entre los miles de sympetrum fonscolombii hemos conseguido detectar algunas brachytecmis leucosticta y un macho de crocothemys erythraea.

Por la tarde tampoco se dió mal en la sierra de la Plata y alrededores con varios roqueros solitarios, avión roquero, golondrina dáurica, gavilán, cernícalo primilla, una visión fugaz de buitre de Rüppell, águila pescadora, el primer alcotán en un mes y al menos dos vencejos moros, el perfecto punto y final para un magnífico día.

One of the most exciting days during the Autumn migration this present year. We have spent the whole morning exploring the rice paddies at La Janda, moving in the evening into the Sierra de la Plata range. In the the first place good numbers of White Storks, between 75 and 100 Black Storks, around 600 Glossy Ibis, the three species of harriers, Montagu's, Marsh and Hen, two Little Owls, Short-toed and Booted Eagles, five Honey Buzzards, two Black-shouldered Kites... but the best came just at the end of the morning when we found resting on the ground a juvenile Spanish Imperial Eagle. The bird was seen for about 30 minutes when it took off and vanished at the distance with a mixed flock of raptors. Steve, one of the clientes managed to see for a second an Otter while we had two nice dragonflies, the rare Banded Groundling and a male of Scarlet Darter.

The evening was not bad either at Sierra de la Planta seeing several Blue Rock Thrushes, Crag Martin, Red-rumped Swallow, Lesser Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Rüppell's Vulture, Osprey, my first Hobby this Autumn and at least two Little Swifts... a perfect end for a wonderful day.
