El próximo fin de semana, 23 y 24, Spainbirds Nature Tours y SEO/BirdLife organizan una excursión para observar aves en el Parque Natural de Bardenas Reales. En una fugaz visita de reconocimiento pude ver algunas de las aves esteparias de la zona incluyendo alondra de Dupont, terrera marismeña, cogujadas común y montesina. También chovas piquirrojas, buitre leonado y varios aguiluchos laguneros. En la cercana laguna de Pitillas al menos había 3 garcetas grandes, 4 espátulas y una selección de patos, fochas, garzas y gaviotas. Logré escuchar bigotudo pero ni rastro del avetoro a ver si tenemos más suerte los próximos días.

The next weekend, 23 and 24, Spainbirds Nature Tours and SEO/BirdLife run together a birding trip into the Natural Park of Bardenas Reales (South East Navarre). In a very quick visit to check access for our bus I could see some of the most attractive species of these steppe habitat including the rare Dupont's Lark, Lesser Short-toed Lark, Crested and Thekla Larks. Red-billed Choughs, Griffon Vulture and several Marsh Harriers were also recorded apart from a good number of Corn Buntings, Black Redstarts and Skylarks. In the nearby Laguna de Pitillas at least 3 Great Egrets, 4 Spoonbills and a selection of ducks, coots, herons and gulls. I managed to hear the scarce Bearded Tit but no signs of the very elusive Great Bittern, let's see if we are more lucky the next days.
