Extremadura en OctubreExtremadura in October

Desde el pasado domingo día 2 he estado guiando a Tim y Eliza Earl, de Estados Unidos. Decidimos hacer un brever recorrido de tres días por algunos de los lugares más interesantes para ver aves en Extremadura. El primer día visitamos los llanos de Calera y Chozas, las dehesas de Oropesa y el embalse de Arrocampo. El Parque Nacional de Monfragüe fue el destino para el segundo día, y ayer, exploramos los llanos de Cáceres para viajar a Córdoba por la tarde pasando por la Serena. Las especies más interesantes observadas en estos tres días han sido águila imperial ibérica, águila real, buitre negro, aguilucho cenizo, aguilucho pálido, avutarda, ganga ibérica, ganga ortega, elanio común, calamón, collalba negra,picogordo, bisbita campestre, vencejo real y vencejo cafre.

Three days exploring join Tim and Eliza Earl some of the best sites for birding in Extremadura in this time of the year. We visited on first day the Calera y Chozas plains, the dehesa landscape of Oropesa and the reservoir of Arrocampo. For the second day we travelled into Monfragüe National Park where we were the whole day. Finally yesterday we did our birding in the plains of Cáceres and La Serena reaching Cordoba that same evening. Amongst the most interesting species recorded were Spanish Imperial and Golden Eagles, Black and Griffon Vulture, Black-shouldered Kite, Great Bustard, Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Black Wheatear, Alpine Swift, Blue Rock Thrush, Rock Bunting, Montagu´s Harrier, Hoopoe, Calandra Lark, Tawny Pipit, Red-rumped Swallow, Hawfinch and, at least, 4 different White-rumped Swifts.
